Hey everybody!  My name is Sara and I love to cook and bake.  I started keeping a food blog while I was studying at Oberlin Conservatory.  I started my first food blog with my friend, Summer, who was also a Conservatory major.  Our blog was called “Music is the Food of Love,” and it was all about writing down recipes that were somehow related to music.  It was a fun idea, but I wanted to branch out on my own, so in 2011 I came up with the name Brahms and Cupcakes and started my own blog.

Brahms and Cupcakes started as a way to find my way after graduating from Oberlin, through the meals I would cook.  I called it “A food blog about life after college.”  A year later, with a serious boyfriend, and a beautiful home…yeah, I’d say life’s pretty good, and the wonderful things I’ve made in the kitchen have definitely gotten me through a lot.

I’m a violinist, first and foremost.  I’ve been playing for about 15 years, give or take, and I mainly play classical violin.  I went to Oberlin Conservatory for my undergraduate degree, and while there I experimented with bluegrass music.  I played in a band called The Black River Belles, and we went on tour along with playing shows around the Oberlin-Cleveland area.  It was a lot of fun!!  Lots of whisky.

Four days before graduation, I sprained my ankle horribly and tore three ligaments.  This changed ALL of my plans after graduating.  I didn’t want to go straight on to grad school, so I thought I was going to move to Nashville, TN, to try and make it as a studio player or join a big-time band up there.  Because my ankle took almost 4 months to completely heal, I decided to work in Champaign, IL and live in my parents’ condo up there.

The plan was to live there for 5-7 months, earn some money, and move to Nashville.  I was set to do all that….and then I met Charlie.  He changed my life forever.

This is Charlie!  He asked me on our first date on October 19, 2011, the day after my birthday.  We knew each other a long time ago, because our families were friends back when I used to live in Champaign-Urbana.  It was such an instant connection that I knew we’d be together for a long time.  He is the love of my life, and every day, I am so thankful that I get to spend all of my days at home with the world’s most amazing man.

So now, I have a beautiful home, wonderful boyfriend, and a cute little kitty (Kikkoman) to make delicious things for!  I’m hoping that next year I will get into the grad school of my choice, but for now all I can do is practice and await the auditions next year.
