mmmmmm sliders. This is my first picture from my new fancy Samsung Galaxy S5! Pretty snazzy, huh? My parents have come to town to come see a Cubs game on Saturday, but also helped with the move. It’s been a tough adjustment, but it’s nice to have the extra company 🙂
Mom and Dad went to a friend’s place for dinner one night, so I decided to finally try this recipe: turkey spinach sliders! So, Charlie loves a burger piled with bacon, 1 lb of ground beef, THE WORKS. But…I thought I’d sneak in this healthy alternative to a burger. And he loved it! So ladies, take note: these are a winner. Also, this literally took me a half hour, start to finish. Super easy, and a great weeknight meal. And only 56 calories per patty—even better! Hope you guys decide to try!
YIELD: 12 sliders
TIME: 30 minutes
CALORIES: 56 per patty (if you add bun, lettuce, tomato, and swiss cheese, it came out to be about 176 calories)
1/2 lb spinach, chopped
4 scallions, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1 lb ground turkey
3/4 tsp ground cumin
salt and pepper, to taste
3 Tbsp olive oil (I used olive oil spray on my grill pan; FAR less calories this way!)
12 whole wheat slider buns
cheese slices, quartered
Combine spinach scallions, garlic, turkey, and cumin with your hands, and add salt and pepper to taste. Form into 12 patties.
Heat a grill pan or grill, and spray with olive oil. Cook each patty about 5 minutes per side, resisting the urge to press down on the patty (this takes away any of the juice from the meat). Place in a 200 degree oven to keep warm, and put cheese slices on top. Let cheese melt in the oven, and serve immediately on warm buns, topped with lettuce, tomato, and any other desired condiments.
Hope y’all enjoy!
